BlackBerry basicsThe first impression is often the primary, and at a glance, these two Blackberries are quite similar. Both the Blackberry Pearl and Blackberry 8800 RIM Blackberry with the distinctive candy-bar design with smooth, rounded edges and chrome accents. Blackberry Pearl is slightly narrower than the 8800, even if the BlackBerry 8800 has a thinner profile. Both smartphones feature a keyboard, but the 8800 is a full-size QWERTY keyboard, the Pearl compared to the truncated (but fully functional) SureType keyboard. Both are 240 x 260 pixels, 65 000-color display and a new Blackberry trackball navigation (as compared to older BlackBerry models of jogging).

As far as messaging is concerned, the Blackberry 8800 comes with Blackberry Messenger, whereas the Pearl adds Yahoo Messenger and Google Talk pre-loaded with the smartphone. If you are a heavy user of Google Talk or MSN Messenger, which gives the Blackberry Pearl a clear edge. Blackberry 8800 is also the color maps and text or voice driving right on the phone, making it invaluable for travelers. (The service will pay an extra 0.99 a month, or 0.99 10 trips.) If you plan to use your Blackberry to listen to music, you will find either a model for your needs. Blackberry 8800 and Blackberry Pearl, music and video files, supports MPEG4, H.263 video formats and MP3 and AAC (from iTunes Music Store) format. Note that although the 8800 play video files, it does not really flat, if you want to watch videos on your Blackberry, you can use a microSD card or a USB 2.0 to transfer files to it.
